This painting is based on an observation study of a tabernacle I produced in Italy some years ago. This is a very large painting at 4ft x 6ft. It was produced to celebrate moving into a new studio- I love to work big and no longer have to worry about the size of the work- fantastic! This painting incorporates the use of sand and wax. Inspired by a disintegrating façade, ‘Large Church Window’ not only celebrates the architectural traditions of Venice,
but also its spectacular decay. This painting makes reference to the religious and aesthetic values which run so deeply through Italy’s cultural identity. Some subtle reference to religious iconography is apparent on closer inspection.
