This small textured oil painting on box canvas shows the detail of a beautiful white chalk ammonite with striking red sutures. The original ammonite held in the New Walk Museum reserve fossil collection was huge- being about 40cm wide- with very subtle tonal variations within its textured surface. It has been produced as part of a large series of 8 x 8 studies and abstractions.
