These are my beautiful children. This painting is based on a photograph I took in an empty gallery which was 'between exhibitions' at the Ashmolean in Oxford. As an artist the empty white cube, with its beautiful lighting, white walls and polished wooden floors screamed to me of possibilities, anticipation and opportunity. The children however were recovering from a tiff and whilst they may appear to be wistfully daydreaming, looking out of the window, the body language is easily readable. The painting represents the balancing act I try to perform everyday- the artist versus mother- peacekeeper, mediator and primary carer. |
